Production Facilities

Spring Studios works as a co-operative with several independent producers, camera crew and rental facilities and owns full broadcast digital post-production studios in Johannesburg where full-length documentaries for The Discovery Channel and National Geographic have been completed.

The Final Cut Pro Edit Suite which includes Betacam SP, DVCPRO, DVCAM, MiniDV, HDV, DVD and VHS capabilities along with a voice recording booth are available for hire and transfers.

History & Track Record
Charles has been producing television inserts and documentaries since 1984 and has made over 300 programmes for the SABC and M-Net as well as six full-length documentaries for the local and international film market including the Discovery Channel.

He won the Star Tonight Award for best documentary on SABC and M-Net for “Back to Africa”. He has also produced over twenty inserts for M-Net’s Carte Blanche programme of which four were nominated for “Environmental Journalist of the Year” awards.

A 48-min. documentary on “The Science of Tracking” which he produced for the Discovery Channel in the UK was shown at the SA Film market in Cape Town as an example of excellence in documentary filmmaking.

Charles was Series Producer for a 26 part series on the World Summit for Sustainable Development 2002 for which he negotiated sponsored from the Anglo American group.

For the last 18 months Charles has been Content Producer and researcher on the new 50|50 programme after it was outsourced from the SABC. During this period the programme received several international awards for its achievements in the fields of conservation and wildlife.

In 2008 Charles joined the new 50|50 programme as Content producer after it was outsourced from the SABC and in 2009 he took over as Series Producer. During this period the programme received several international awards for its achievements in the fields of conservation and wildlife. These included the SA Film and Television Awards for Best Magazine Programme on South African television in 2009 and several SAB Environmental Journalist of the Year awards in 2009, 2010 and 2011
